Yeah, in canon he IS pretty neutral to Frisk. That’s like, his defining character trait besides being a goofy weirdo.
The idea though is that that coolness towards Frisk we see in the game is a product of Sans’ situation, his depression, his apathy, his pessimism.
Someday I will stop thinking just way too hard about Papyrus Undertale.

Oh my god Papyrus Sans. This. This is extremely good??? I never even considered the possibility… sans goes by their surname. This is good and you should genuinely be proud of this.
AND I WILL DO SO probably tonight. They both mean a lot to me, and I feel like Toby almost went out of his *way* to re-affirm they have a genuine friendship of some kind (whether Flowey likes it or not) with the whole dinosaur egg cereal thing.
And I have… thoughts. About that. I don’t think they’re as much of a The Odd Couple friendship as they seem like they are.

they also text each other outdated memes and badly drawn pictures of each other they made in MS Paint
sometimes they talk about inviting burgerpants over, but neither of them know him, they just think he’s pathethic enough to join their Sad Nerds Club™
alphys tells sans about her weird ships and shows him fanfics she’s written about her and asgore and he’s like What The Fuck Is Wrong With You
they also get drunk and prank call mettaton during one of his shows and then they get so embarressed neither of them leave their houses for at least 3 weeks
