I think there should be more science-y Alphys stuff. The determination experiments didn’t go well, obviously, but she is still a competent scientist otherwise, having created Mettaton’s body, a jetpack phone with interdimensional storage, the Undernet, and most likely a lot of the general technology in the underground besides the Core. I love cute stuff, otaku stuff, and Alphyne, but I also want more Alphys inventing things, Alphys experimenting with human technology, Alphys helping Frisk with science projects, etc.

alphys in undertale fucked me up a bit bc im not used to a character showing a lot of my own mental illness behaviours while also being depicted sympathetically?? like im used to empathising with characters the intended neurotypical audience is meant to see as unpredictable or dangerous or high maintenance but alphys is intended to by sympathised with and cared for and thats incredibly rare in this context… what a good lizard

THINGS WE KNOW ALPHYS IS A GENIUS AT:

  • Computer science/programming
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Electrical engineering
    • If you’ve ever looked into engineering these are completely unrelated fields which require radically different skillsets and knowledge bases
    • Alphys would’ve needed, not just a functional, but a stellar knowledge of all three to properly design Mettaton’s bod(ies)
    • Also, she made a PHONE that turns into a FUNCTIONAL JETPACK and ALSO A RAYGUN
  • Magical engineering
    • Alphys definitely understands the inner workings of the Core, although she holds herself back from infodumping about it (alphys bb no i wanna hear everything)
    • This is more spec, but: Alphys altered Mettaton’s soul, making it more humanlike, to enable him to inhabit a material body
    • When his SOUL appears, it’s a right-side up heart icon like the human ones, not upside-down like a monster SOUL
    • ALPHYS CHANGED THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A MONSTER’S SOUL
  • Soul science/DETERMINATION
    • ALPHYS DID THE ORIGINAL DT RESEARCH
    • CANONICALLY
    • Y’ALL CAN FIGHT ME

not to mention that thing where she uses the tall grass from Waterfall to make her own ice cream which is pretty heckin’ rad

tl;dr: Alphys is a brilliant and incredible scientist and deserves more than anybody else to be the Royal Scientist, she earned that post by being good at her job

tl;dr2: ALPHYS IS A BETTER SCIENTIST THAN GASTER EVER WAS OR WILL BE SUCK IT
