wait. why does mettaton use the world “bloodshed” when his P/N battle starts. that can’t be a common phrase in monster language, monsters don’t bleed. did he pick that up from all the human TV and movies he’s watched? also, what do monsters say instead of bloodshed? dustshed?
I’m not sure where people are getting the idea that monsters don’t bleed. They turn to dust *when they die*, but operate as if they were normal physical entities for the most part until that point. When Toriel is wounded, we see dark slash marks that match blood better than dust, and although I know we all love our ketchup jokes, the same is true of Sans. Undyne shouts about every monster’s heart beating as one, which doesn’t make much sense if they don’t HAVE beating hearts. It’s not like monsters are skins stuffed with sawdust Velveteen Rabbit style.
Though, that aside, it could simply be borrowed from human language. Plenty of exposure to human culture going on here, enough to keep monsters speaking a mutually intelligible dialect of English despite at least a thousand years of isolation (unless you assume some entity is translating, in which case “bloodshed” may just be the best translation of the word Mettaton is actually using.) Mettaton especially is fascinated by Hollywood pop culture and bases his own performance style on what he takes from film.
