also i kinda fused two headcanons about MTT’s heart container, so it still looks like a belt but is also an aquarium sorta thingy
(btw i’m sorry if i suck at the resemblance, i’m no marine biologist and i’m certainly not googling anglerfish photos hhh)
If you’ve ever looked into engineering these are completely unrelated fields which require radically different skillsets and knowledge bases
Alphys would’ve needed, not just a functional, but a stellar knowledge of all three to properly design Mettaton’s bod(ies)

This is more spec, but: Alphys altered Mettaton’s soul, making it more humanlike, to enable him to inhabit a material body
