The vocabulary from the “im a super scary vidyagaem creepypasta demon ooOOoooOOOooOO“ speech at the end of No Mercy is so similar to the vocabulary from the game’s general narration. I don’t think I ever even noticed that before.
There have been a lot of greatposts noting the similarities between Chara and Undyne’s personalities (concerning their anti-human and hero/hope of monsters complex) But not many people have seen the similar struggle with self-image both Chara and Dr. Alphys share?
Chara’s hatred of humanity and how they coped with they themselves being a human (the enemy of monsters) Dr. Alphys being the Royal Scientist, but having to deal with the repercussions of the failed DT experiments. How both struggled with the responsibility of their positions: Chara as the Hope of the future of monsters and humans and Alphys as the one charged with unlocking the power of the Soul to set monster’s free (without having to rely on waiting for another human to fall)
The buttercup incident could have been for Chara what the Determination experiments were for Alphys: A proof of their failure at their station and at being a good person.
Remember that Chara only mentions their plan to free monsters after that event. Remember that Chara was a child who, while they loved gardening, didn’t know everything about plants? Remember that Chara’s plan involved their suicide, through poisoning themselves the same way they poisoned Asgoere aka Mr. Dad Guy!
What if during their time living happily with the Dremurrs, Chara had been scared of themselves and their “human nature”?
Alphys herself at the True Lab will say that she was afraid she would do something “cowardly” (And in some of the really bad neutral endings she “disappears”)
Both characters carried the burden of bringing hope/saving an entire population. Both characters made a mistake that almost cost someone else’s life. Both characters contemplated suicide (one with through with it, and for the other it’s a possible ending)
Chara’s attempt to make things right ended in further tragedy. With help, Alphys was able to accept their faults and move forward.

This one was actually really fun, trying to figure out which Pokemon should go on their teams. I did Papyrus and Sans.
For Sans I picked:
1. Duskull. Come on. Just look at it. It’s got a bone motif on its’ back, a skull face and only one eye/iris/pupil (that switches from eye to eye but is usually seen in the left eye).
2. Shedinja. This particular Pokemon only has 1 HP. It’s invincible, however, unless it’s hit by a move that’s super-effective against it.
3. Celebi. Celebi is known as the “Time Travel” Pokemon, something that seemed to fit the idea around Sans supposedly having time-traveled himself.
4. Slakoth. Not only was Sans too lazy to evolve it into Slaking, but Slakoth is also one of the laziest Pokemon ever, and even has what was once a move unique to it and its’ evolved form, Slack Off, where it would literally Slack Off and regain half of its’ HP.
5. Minun. Its’ color scheme fit Sans better of the two partner Pokemon (Minun and Plusle), and its’ theme of “minus” is synonymous with one of the meanings of the word “Sans”, “without”. His favorite to use in Team Battles with Papyrus’ Plusle.
For Papyrus I picked:
1. Marowak. Okay. Like. It’s called “The Bone Keeper Pokemon”, and it’s holding a bone. What more do you want.
2. Sunflora. Based on his friendship with Flowey. Papyrus decided to nickname his Sunflora “Flowery”.
3. Togekiss. This Pokemon only evolves when its’ “Friendship” or happiness stat is raised to a certain level, and its’ Platinum Pokedex description says “
It shares many blessings with people who respect one another’s rights and avoid needless strife.” which is also something Papyrus would do.
4. Victini. Known as the “Victory Pokemon”. According to the Pokedex, “This Pokémon brings victory. It is said that Trainers with Victini always win, regardless of the type of encounter.” It seemed fitting for Papyrus!
5. Plusle. Not only is Papyrus’ brimming with positivity, but Plusle also matches his color scheme out of the Pokemon pair of Plusle and Minun. He likes to use it in Team battles with Sans.

can we all just appreciate how blatantly in love Undyne and Alphys are with each other throughout the whole game? when you’re with them, it’s so hard to find something that they do that doesn’t involve the other person.
the only reason Undyne has soda at her house is bc of Alphys. Alphys brings all the gifts she wants to give to Undyne on her date with you. Undyne always calls Alphys cute, and before they officially got together, Alphys was like “LOL PLATONICALLY, RIGHT?? HAHAHAHAHA SHE’D NEVER BE WITH ME!!!” Undyne called Alphys to ask her about the weather as a poor excuse just to hear her voice when there is no fuckin weather in Hotland oh my god. Alphys watches Undyne fight and i fuckin bet you she just sits there going “god she’s so hot”. Undyne only lets Alphys into her bedroom. i can only fuckin assume that Undyne got that dress Alphys had, and when she saw her wearing it she was like “whoa! you look really cute!”. when Undyne and Alphys first met, Alphys was staring at the abyss in the garbage dump, and a lot of people have suggested (bc of the different neutral endings), that she was considering suicide, and that at that moment when Undyne began to talk to her, her entire fate just changes.
also, the entire roleplay scene. also when Undyne says the garbage dump is a great place to pick up girls. also when Alphys freaks out when she forgot to watch the fight you had with Undyne. they’re both huge embarrassing nerds. gigantic nerds.
i’m so glad for these girls. these nerds. i’m so happy for them. i literally. i’m so glad.
