Undertale timeline theory: The year Chara came to the Underground,
is the same year the royal family moved the capital from “Home” to “New Home.”

Here is my reasoning:

At Toriel’s house in the Ruins we find a calendar from
beginning of the year 201X and we find a calendar from the end of the year 201X
(with the day of Chara’s arrival circled on it) at Asgore’s home.

When Toriel left her husband a year probably already passed (at
least) before Chara and Asriel’s death and I doubt she would have taken
something like an old calendar with her during her sudden disappearance. (She
was also allegedly transporting Chara’s body to the Ruins to be buried so it’s
most likely she couldn’t take much else with her)
My guess is that during the move from Home to New Home the royal family left
most of the houses furnishings behind in case they ever needed to come back to
the old capital for business or vacationing.

Also, building a new Capital
City would take time, “Rome was not built in a
day,” after all. But one of the first buildings to go up would have been the
Royal Family’s living quarters, and considering how humbly they live compared
to other examples of royalty, it would have taken roughly around a year to complete.

There are also the living arraignments of Home and New Home
to consider. The kid’s room in Home has one bed and the table setting in the
living room has two adult chairs and one kid’s sized chair. Whereas in New home
we see two beds in the children’s room and a total of four chairs.
This would mean that Asriel had lived in Home for a while, which is much closer
to the Ruins where Chara fell in, making their chance meeting more probable
than if Asriel had been living at New Home during the year 201X.

Another plausible support for this is how the monster
history book stated that the monsters went further into the mountain because “They
feared the humans no longer.”

Could Chara’s coming to the underground and
becoming a part of the royal family contributed to this change in sentiment?

Wait, so whenever Frisk dies their soul shatters the same way a monster’s shatters. If human souls are supposed to persist after death, why does Frisk’s soul shatter?

passivechara:

I think the shattering is a visual indication of death.
But like we see in the True End fight a human soul can mend itself. But not all humans have the level of determination Frisk has. So when a normal human (or a human who willingly refuses to use their save file) gets killed by a monster it probably looks like this:

But whenever we get a game over in Undertale it’s more like:

((and in the final battle Frisk’s Soul is so determined that it just outright refuses to die! Hardcore kid right here))

So I noticed this during my final Pacifist Run…

Here’s Sans as a Lost Soul. Notice anything unusual about his speech text? Let’s compare to this GIF of Alphys.

And here’s a close-up on his speech.

It’s hard to tell when it’s not in motion, but the letters are shaking. No other Lost Soul does this. Not even he does this at any other time; not even when you face him in Genocide Mode. His text never shakes like this at any other point in the game. And what does he say?

“just give up. i did.”
“why even try?”
“you’ll never see ‘em again.”

When Sans faces you as a Lost Soul, he can’t hide the emotion in his voice any more. Killing his brother won’t get this reaction, being killed by you won’t get this reaction, because to stop himself from being hurt any more, Sans has made himself numb. Even if you’re Genocidal and you commit atrocities like he’s never seen, he’s too far gone, so deep in despair that he’s dead inside.

But if you play pacifist and befriend Sans? He sees you tread the same path as he did, trying to make things right despite overwhelming odds. He looks at you, and he sees the innocence he’s lost. And suddenly he’s out of Snowdin, he’s following you across the entire Underground, and he’s rooting for you, kid. You’ve given him hope. You’ve given him a reason to break out of his rut and actually care about something, and that something is you.

Behind that glitchy mess as a Lost Soul, he’s crying. And given this is the guy who’s disguised his pain with laughs for the entire run, that’s a pretty huge deal.

I personally am inclined to think Sans is generally depressed, just as a default state of being, and thus the numbness might not have been intentional. Also, I’m not sure this has anything to do with losing his innocence, or walking the same path as him. Not saying it can’t be that either. It’s just that, fanon aside, we really don’t know what’s going on with him. There’s a few implications, and a lot of possibilities.

That said, good post.
