i think my favorite thing about undyne is she’s everything a token female character is Not Supposed To Be

sure Powerful Women have been showing up a lot lately but they’re either 100% mean and evil or they’re strong but also ~motherly and kind~ and still end up being a damsel half the time despite their apparent strengths

undyne’s loud and rude and kind of a jerk sometimes but she’s got a big heart, too, and she cares sooooo much about everything around her, she cares so much about her friends and fellow monsters, but not so much humanity, and not necessarily every monster, either.

she’s not ~kindhearted~ she doesn’t protect people ~despite the fact they’re jerks~ 

when she allows frisk into her house it’s literally just because papyrus is right there, and ONLY if you haven’t killed anyone—she’s not making exceptions to hang out with murderers even for papyrus. 

when she drags monster kid away from frisk, away from an apparent threat, it’s with annoyance and probably a burning anger that she was interrupted

she makes barf jokes. she’s over the top. she makes sarcastic comments and snide remarks and it’s good

a lot of the reasons undertale’s cast is so great is that every character is the literal exact opposite of what you’d expect media to give you. it’s refreshing, plus, they’re all exceedingly real. they all have strengths and flaws they all feel as complex as a real person, and it’s
